Rooted in Love and
Healed through Connection

WHAT IS SOMATIC THERAPY?

We know that stress and trauma is certainly not 'just in our head', but becomes a part of our physiology and has real effects on how we experience life; from our beginnings in the womb all the way through adulthood. Somatic therapy focuses on the root cause of this stress and trauma with all its unpleasant symptoms - a nervous system that is activated in response to threat. Somatic therapy recognizes that working with the 'soma', the living body with all its parts, mind/body/spirit, is essential to embodied healing.  It is a deeply mindful healing process that explores how the body expresses overwhelming physical and emotional experiences in such a way that it supports the slow unwind and release of unhelpful nervous system patterns.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SOMATIC ECOTHERAPY SESSION?

Every persons healing needs are different and sessions unfold according to you or your child's unique situation...

Sessions are slow, collaborative, and guided by the body rather than a predetermined agenda. Together, we gently explore sensations, emotions, memories, and intuitive responses in a way that supports regulation and presence. Over time, this builds the capacity to notice choice, develop resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Many sessions take place outdoors, where the natural environment becomes a co-regulating support. Imagine walking beneath tall trees, feeling the ground beneath your feet, noticing sunlight filtering through leaves and you can sense the rhythm of your breath alongside the rhythms of the forest. Sessions that are indoors take place in a cedar wood cabin with windows to view the forest and hear the singing of the birds. Nature is a powerful tool for settling the nervous system and reconnecting with yourself and the world around you.

Somatic therapy is a process of deepening embodiment and relationship—with yourself, others, and the natural world.

  • Developing a greater sense of safety, choice, and capacity in your body

  • Reducing chronic stress, overwhelm, and trauma-related symptoms

  • Strengthening emotional regulation and resilience

  • Cultivating deeper self-awareness, curiosity, and connection

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a specific, evidence-based approach to somatic therapy that supports the nervous system in gradually processing and releasing traumatic stress. SE focuses on tracking bodily sensations, imagery, emotions, and movement impulses in a way that prevents overwhelm and supports integration. Through this gentle process, people often develop increased body awareness, improved self-regulation skills, and a greater ability to navigate daily stressors and life transitions.

SE is a foundational element of my work and informs how sessions are paced and guided.

Some of these practices may also be part of a session:

Expressive Arts
A multidimensional approach that may include drawing, painting, writing, movement, or sandplay. Natural materials such as clay, sand, water, leaves, and found objects are often used to creative expression and emotional processing.

Craniosacral Therapy
A gentle, hands-on modality using light touch to support nervous system regulation.

Singing Bowls / Sound Work
A vibrational modality that uses sound to support relaxation, regulation, and integration.

Guided Meditation and Somatic Awareness
Practices that support present-moment awareness, interoception, and curiosity toward inner experience, always paced to match nervous system capacity.
